Step 1: Create a database via your hosting control panel, refer to your setup email for login information. If your site does not have a control panel please request a MySQL database setup for your domain by opening a support ticket.
• Log in to your hosting control panel
• Mouse over Databases and click MySQL
• Click the Create Database
• Create the database and make note of the database name including the part before the underscore
• Click the Create User
• Enter a username, password and check the database you just created, click Save
Step 2: Download the latest version zip from the phpBB web site
Step 3: Extract the zip file to a directory on your computer
Step 4: Upload all the phpBB files and folders via FTP to the location on your web server where you want to install the forum. Rename or delete the .htaccess file as it could be parsed by IISPassword and interfere with the next step.
Step 5: Point your browser to the directory on your web site where you uploaded the phpBB files, click the Install tab to get started with the installation
Step 6: On the Requirements step you'll most likely encounter Unwritable notices so you will have to adjust some permissions. This can be done via the File Manager in your WebsitePanel. Navigate to the wwwroot folder and locate the folders and/or files, click the lock icon. Check the Write options as well as the Child Objects (for folders) option and click Set Permissions. If you do not have a control panel please open a support ticket to request the permission changes.
Step 7: On the Database step use mysql2.nextmill.net for hostname and fill in the information you noted when creating your database
Step 8: Proceed through the remaining step to complete the installation
Step 9: Change the permissions on config.php back to Read only
Step 10: Delete the install files and log in to the forum administration panel to configure your forum
To keep your site and forum secure it is important to install software updates as soon as possible! Check with the publisher of the software frequently if any updates are available.
