Microsoft's fix for one of FrontPage's most annoying bugs. These
instructions will make your workstation support NTLM authentication
when using FrontPage to publish or modify your website on our servers.
Do not skip a single step else its possible your problem will not get
fixed.
Step 1: Upgrade to the latest Internet Explorer,
it does not matter if you use it or not. FrontPage does use Internet
Explorer and needs the latest version to function correctly. Visit the
Microsoft web site to upgrade to the latest version.
Step 2: Make sure you have Client for Microsoft installed under 'Network' in the Control Panel.
Step 3: Right click on the ISP dialup option under Dialup Networking and select 'Properties', make sure 'Log On To Network' is checked.
Step 4: Reboot after the above 3 steps have been completed.
Step 5:
Try to connect with FrontPage again. If it still has issues open the
'Tools' menu in Internet Explorer and select Internet Options,
Security, Custom Level. At the bottom make sure 'Prompt for
Username/PW' is checked.
Step 6: If it still fails or
times out, try a different Internet Service Provider. Slow or congested
internet providers cause FrontPage to exhibit problems.
Some
company proxy servers and sometimes AOL do not allow NTLM
authentication to function or your workstation just might have
something messed up to now allow NTLM authentication. If all 6 steps
above have been attempted, open a
Support Ticket asking for Basic authentication to be on and for NTLM authentication to be turned off for your domain.
