This document explains how to get Enterprise Manager to properly
register and connect to our SQL 2000 server so you can remotely manage
your database.You will need a copy of Enterprise Manager 2000 to do
this, Enterprise Manager 7.0 will not connect to an SQL 2000 server.
You can get this from the SQL 2000 full version or evaluation version.
• Go to 'Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > Client Network Utility'
• Make sure TCP/IP is in the enabled list and on top
• Click on the 'Alias' tab
• Click the 'Add' button
• Enter 'mssql1.nextmill.net' for the alias
• Select TCP/IP for the Network Library
• Change Server Name under 'Connection Parameters' to mssql1.nextmill.net
• Change the Port Number to 5000 and click 'OK', click OK once more to close the Client Network Utility
• Go to 'Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > Enterprise Manager'
• Expand Microsoft SQL Servers
• Right click on 'SQL Server Group'
• Select 'New SQL Server Registration'
• Click the 'Next' button
• Highlight 'mssql1.nextmill.net' alias and click 'Add'
• Click 'Next'
• Under Connect Using select SQL Server Login and click 'Next'
• Enter your main SQL username and password provided to you by our support staff
• Click the 'Next' button, click 'Next' once more then click 'Finish' and 'Close'
